The first time I heard the word Reiki was in 2011 and my response was, “What key?” My massage therapist asked me if I had ever heard of it. Nope. At that moment I was stressed beyond belief over an upcoming business trip that was going to be mainly difficult discussions followed by important decisions. Less than twenty four hours earlier, I had been spending my time at Chicago’s Midway airport and I was so looking forward to my massage.
Tanya, my massage therapist said, “Don’t think I’m weird Jeff if I just stand in one place for a long time. I’ve only given Reiki to my cat, you’re my first person.” We laughed and I was too tired to try to understand anything new. All I cared about was getting on that massage table and letting Tanya loosen all those kinks throughout my body, especially my neck and shoulders.
I fell asleep on the table. Deep sleep. Tanya had to wake me up. Once I got up, I felt so refreshed. Everything looked so bright and clear to me. I had never felt like this before.
The drive home was truly a la dee da experience for me. I felt so happy and my entire outlook on the upcoming trip changed. I felt so confident and sure of myself and wasn’t really interested in stressing out any more. I had already spent enough time thinking and rethinking and overthinking and then thinking again.
I didn’t want to waste my energy or ruin the way I felt at this moment. Is this what it felt like to meditate, I wondered? It was dreamy but down to earth at the same time. It was a new feeling for me and I really liked it. The trip was a success and I called Tanya from the airport to book my Reiki session the following Saturday.
Shortly after having the session with Tanya, I met my first Reiki Master who came out of retirement to teach me Reiki Level I. It’s more than 15 years later as I type these words. Today, I had two women visit me for Reiki sessions. Just like always, Reiki delivered as it helped them heal in body, mind and spirit. Everyone always feels better after a Reiki session. It can be emotional and exhilarating as well as calming and healing. You really need to experience Reiki. If you or a loved one are having any pain or stress issues, please consider Reiki.
