Dr. Mikao Usui, the Founder of Reiki shared his precepts with the world many years ago, but they are still just as powerful today as the day that he received them. I will always remember the moment when I first heard two of the Reiki Precepts: “Just for today, do not anger,” and “Just for today, do not worry.”

These words literally stopped me in my tracks because I was so used to being angry and worried all the time about something that never happened anyway. Tom Petty, told us, “Most things I worry about never happen anyway,” in his song, ‘Crawling back to you.’ Isn’t that the truth? God, I miss Tom Petty, but I’m thankful that he left us so many great songs.

When I first heard the Reiki Precepts, I remember saying out loud, “Huh? What? Don’t get angry? Seriously? And, don’t worry? How’s that even possible?” I learned at a young age how to get angry and how to worry. This was not going to be an easy thing for me, I thought. But, these words were part of Reiki and I was fascinated by Reiki and wanted to be a part of it somehow. I was willing to give it a shot and I only had to do it just for today. I think I can do that, I reasoned with myself. Reiki helped me break those old habits of being angry and worried.

Anger and worry operate at a very low frequency and simply aren’t compatible with Reiki’s higher vibration. It’s one or the other. At least that has been my experience. Whenever I catch myself in my old ways, it happens when I have drifted from Reiki and forgotten about the countless benefits of self-healing for whatever reason. This is why it’s so important to keep the Reiki flowing. We all forget sometimes, but as we grow spiritually, we operate at a higher level and things like anger and worry aren’t a part of our transformation as we strive for love and hope instead. We leave behind all things that no longer serve our highest good.

Anger and worry do not serve our highest good so we leave them behind. Countless people have told me how much lighter they feel after a Reiki session. This is natural as we leave anything behind that is weighing us down and keeping us from soaring at the higher level that Reiki opens up for us. With it’s gentle ways, Reiki teaches us to let go and reach higher.

Reiki is a growing process as it becomes a bigger and bigger part of us. Everything expands and Reiki is no exception. The only limitations of Reiki are the ones we place on it ourselves. Reiki never ceases to amaze me as it heals souls physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

The world needs Reiki now more than ever. Practitioners around the world are sending Reiki to the United States of America tonight. Just for today, on this National American Election Day, my hope is that we will choose hope and love rather than worry and anger. I know we can do it! Just for today…
