It seems like my favorite Reiki session is always the last one. Once again, I have rediscovered the wonder of Reiki through the healing experiences that I am so blessed to be a part of. I am back to doing in-person sessions again and I have been gently nudged and reminded why it is so important that I continue do the healing work. Nothing makes me happier than sharing Reiki and helping another soul feel better. Sometimes, it can be hard to put into words exactly how much I love being the channel for this healing energy that always makes the Reiki recipient feel better – always. That’s why I do my best to share my experiences through the articles that I write.
So, here is kind of a snapshot of a recent Reiki session. Hope you enjoy it.
My new client was coming over at 5:30 p.m. She had purchased 3 in-person sessions and tonight would be her first. Before she arrived, I lightly burned Palo Santo, cleared the space and prepared it for a healing session. The lights were dimmed and the window was cracked as the Holy Wood’s sweet woody scent was in the air, especially all around my Reiki table. I learned from many years in the scent business that less is more. The Holy Wood was light but effective as it helped me raise the vibration of the space.
I placed the Power Symbol, Emotional Symbol, Distance Symbol, Master Symbol, Holy Fire and the sign of The Cross on all of my walls, floor and ceiling. I was proud of this space and ready to share it as my paintings even seemed more vibrant to me. I prayed to God, His Son and the Angels who do all the heavy lifting for me during a Reiki session. I expressed my gratitude and thanked them for joining me.
The blankets and pillow looked so comfortable and inviting. With every Reiki session, that is my #1 goal – to help the person feel as comfortable as possible. They made the investment into their well-being and made the drive to see me. I want their Reiki experience to be the very best possible as it heals their body, mind and spirit.
When a new client arrives, they fill out an intake form as we discuss how they would like Reiki to help them during this session. What’s at the top of their list? What’s been going on? How are they doing? How’s life? What are their goals? What do they know about Reiki? What do they know about me? We usually spend roughly 15 minutes ahead of time talking, before they get on the table. Sometimes it can go longer. One recent client expressed interest in learning Reiki from me so we talked about that too.
When they do get on the table, I make sure the bolster is positioned just right for them. I place a paper towel on the pillow ahead of time and throw it away when the session is over. I remind them of what to expect during the session. For example, I will be putting on some soft music – usually “Reiki River” by Niall. This album is what Laurelle Shanti Gaia and Michael Baird (no relation) played during my Holy Fire class. It brings back fond memories. I still get emotional listening to the second track – “The Day Awakes.” For clients who come see my on a regular basis, I change the music up a little bit, still focusing on their well-being with sounds that are soothing to the soul.
I offer them an eye pillow and also offer tissue to put under the eye pillow. I show them my singing pyramid and explain that there will be some sound healing during this session as well. They can see my stones and crystals, so I mention that I work with them too. Usually, I have them hold Anchi crystals during the session. Prior to them getting on the table, I excuse myself to wash my hands and let them know. Even if my hands are spotless and already clean, I make a point of letting them know that I am doing this simple but important step for them. Again, their comfort is my #1 priority. This is the first time they have met me. You can only make a good first impression once.
I keep my rolling stool at the head of the table and my smaller, stool at the end of the table. That way, I’m not making all kinds of noise on the roller. I usually start at their crown as I focus on letting go and letting Reiki flow. No distractions. The person lying on the table is my #1 focus. Everything else must go away so that I can properly channel the energy. I allow plenty of time before a session to center and ground myself. The importance of this step cannot be overstated. My cup must be over flowing so that I can do my very best to partner with Reiki.
