“Dude! It’s kinda creepy. I ain’t lyin’. It’s like my pain is blocked. It’s gone. It’s weird man. I guess this is what it feels like to be relaxed.” He was a veteran and had just had his first Reiki treatment. It was a thorough session with a lot of work on the emotional part of the healing which took place physically, mentally and spiritually as well. Just like always, Reiki delivered exactly what needed to be received. A feeling of deep relaxation worked its way into this man’s system, and the feeling was foreign to him.

I wish I could properly describe the look on his face as he thought long and hard about his Reiki experience. Bewildered, but very happy is probably a pretty good description of the look that I’ll never forget. It was priceless. Then, he just accepted what had happened and started telling others about Reiki. I walked by his office about an hour later while he was talking with another veteran who also had received a Reiki treatment earlier. They were both smiling ear to ear. It was a very cool sight. This is why I love the work that I do. Seeing results like this gives me confidence as I am contacted by many for more and more challenging situations. I simply get out of the way and let Reiki work its wonders. These vets were learning to embrace their new feelings of peace and comfort. It was long overdue.

One man had served his country in the Vietnam war. I saw some of the shrapnel in his shoulder that he’s been dealing with most of his life. I did what I know best. I put an Orthoceras on the old wound and blasted it with Reiki while using the Holy Fire symbol as a cleanser and then a band-aid to seal in all of the healing energy. The Orthoceras is an amazing fossil that is roughly 400 million years old. I use them during all of my treatments as they help draw out any pain. His pain eased, and it showed in the look on his face. He wanted to make sure I knew that he was going to give Reiki another go around when I returned in two weeks. “I’ll do it again. Plan on it,” he said.

The other man had served his country more recently. He and his team are laying the groundwork for the new Veterans Resource Center in Greeley, Colorado, which is the first of its kind in the country. I’m sensitive to energy, and this place is buzzing. He plans to take this privately funded organization on the road. As we were leaving that night, they were telling me about their plans for my new office. This office is 2 hours away. I have no problem driving to see our veterans and delivering Reiki. It’s the least I can do. I never served. But, I know plenty of men and women both who served so I could be free to live the life I have chosen. I am eternally grateful to our veterans.

I understand the veteran’s confused look when he experienced relaxation for the first time in a long time. Please credit me for the understatement of the year as I delver the following sentence regarding my childhood. I was not raised in a relaxed environment. For the purpose of this article, we’ll just leave it at that. I may have had the same confused look when I first discovered the wonders of relaxing. It was all new to me too.

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that reduces stress while promoting relaxation, healing and well-being. I have worked on other people who were also blown away by the feeling of simply being relaxed. I get it. Been there. Done that. Thankfully, Reiki gently disrupted that whole way of being for me. I can’t remember the last time I had a high blood pressure reading. However, that has not always been the case. Feeling relaxed was foreign to me as well. Then, Reiki came along, and I embraced this new way of going through each day in a state of gratitude.

I am confident that Reiki has added years to my life. After years of not taking very good care of myself, I started putting an emphasis on my own well-being and finally accepted the fact that it was time well spent. I need down time. We all do. We recharge and then bounce back ever stronger. Higher still! Excelsior! Ever upward. Reaching for the stars. Excelsior! Reiki helped me slow down, in order to go fast. My days are more productive and gratifying as I pursue a purposeful life by helping others heal. I have become very energy efficient and no longer spend my time with things that do not serve me well.

It all starts with accepting the healing benefits of Reiki energy, or as I call it, “love from above.” It’s unconditional love at the highest level and it’s available to all of us. It is weird, I guess. I’ve gotten used to it. I see Reiki in action every day. The veteran has only witnessed it once. But, that experience certainly won’t be his last with Reiki.

God Bless our Veterans. Thank You for inviting Reiki & me into your lives.
